Appeal for Prayers and Solidarity with victims of floods in Pakistan.
The Islamic Republic of Pakistan is
currently experiencing a devastating situation due to heavy floods, the
unprecedented scale of torrential rains, the overflowing of rivers and lakes,
the release of dam waters, and a series of massive landslides. Heavy landslides
have made the situation graver as thousands have lost their homes. Hundreds
have been killed; hundreds of thousands have been displaced.
According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Situation Reports that the floods have resulted in 1,355 deaths (including 481 children, 601 men and 273 women) and 12,722 people have been injured (including 5,339 men, 3,400 women and 3,983 Children). As per NDMA updated report 1,712,514 houses has been damaged (including 564,831 fully and 1,147,683 partially damaged), moreover, 6,579 KM roads infrastructures has vanished, 246 bridges are collapsed, and 753,187 animals also perished.
Transportation and communication
systems in the affected districts are ruined as major roads have been damaged,
telephone networks are down and electricity is cut-off in many areas. Due to
the flash flood and land sliding, many roads have been closed, and trains and
buses offer limited services.
The devastation of Baluchistan, Khyber
Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Sindh provinces is causing untold miseries to millions
of people in Pakistan. There is an outpouring of goodwill and support from
across the country and the Pakistani Diaspora in several parts of the world.
All efforts, private and governmental, need to be stepped up to assist the
affected people, especially those who have lost everything.
Ecumenical Commission for Human
Development (ECHD), is a humanitarian and development organization, that offers
condolences to the families of all those who have lost their lives and
expresses solidarity with the affected people experiencing extensive damage in
their lives due to the disaster.
The ECHD urges all its local partners,
as well as global churches and donor organizations around the world to pray for
the affected people and communities, particularly affecting, and come forward
to express solidarity and respond urgently to this humanitarian crisis.
Initially, ECHD planned to reach 3,000
families to meet their immediate food, non-food items, clean drinking water,
personal hygiene, and shelter needs. There is a strong urgency to reach out to
more communities who are stranded and isolated in the most remote areas. Only
timely intervention and assistance will help meet the needs of the affected and
reduce the suffering of the millions of citizens of Pakistan.
All donations to this appeal
will support recovery and relief efforts for people impacted by flooding across
Pakistan. Initially, funding will help first responders meet survivors'
immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, hygiene products, and shelter. The
fund will then transition to support longer-term recovery efforts run primarily
by local partner organizations in affected regions across the country.
